During your stay in Lima, you could begin by visiting the historical centre given that this is where most of the significant sights are located. Your stay in Lima and Peru
To visit Peru is the adventure of a lifetime. The natural beauty and cultural riches of this country are quite simply stunning. Of the many attractions worth visiting, the stand-out favourite is of course Machu Picchu. This former Inca city is perched upon the rocky promontory that links the two summits of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. Quite simply, it has to be seen to be believed. You need to book your visit well in advance because there is a daily limit on the number of visitors permitted entry to the site in order to preserve it for future generations. Also worth seeing: Cuzco, with its churches and other sights which chart the town's fascinating past, and the absolutely unmissable Nazca lines, a series of geoglyphs forming strange figures traced out in stone and rocks, clearly visible from the air. If you're interested in finding out more about Inca culture, the archaeological sites of Ollantaytambo and Sacsayhuaman are for you.
For nature-lovers, Lake Titicaca is a must. At 194 km long and 65 km wide, it is the largest lake in South America. You're also sure to love Paracas and the nearby Islas Ballestas islands - you can take a boat from this lovely port town to visit these islands, which are the haunt of penguins, seals and seabirds. For a totally different kind of experience, travel to Iquitos, the gateway to the great Amazon River and a vast expanse of rainforest that's home to lush vegetation, amazing fauna and indigenous peoples.
Lima is the ideal starting point from which to explore Peru's culture and myriad other marvels.
